Time is Running Out to Win FREE Lake Erie Crushers Tickets
LorMet's "Win FREE Lake Erie Crushers Tickets" drawings started August 6 and time is running out for you to win tickets. From now until September 5 LorMet members who withdraw money or get cash advances from LorMet owned and operated ATMs may win 2 Lake Erie Crusher tickets. Random bills that are dispensed by the ATMs at one of five LorMet branch locations will have a sticker on them to alert winners to their prize. Tickets will be in LorMet Branch location ATMs in Amherst, Elyria, Lorain, Oberlin and Wellington
How often can you say a trip to the ATM netted you tickets that you didn't pay for? It is one thing to go to the ATM, take out money to buy tickets; it is another to go to the ATM, get some money and get free tickets.
Yes, there are some eligibility rules and requirements, but for the most part this is a simple way to win a great time at a Crushers game. There are not trivia questions to answer, numbers to guess or physically-demanding stunts to perform. Just visit a LorMet ATM and take out cash as you normally would and you may win. This contest is back by popular demand--you liked it so much the last time we did it, we heard you and decided to do it again.
Baseball games are a lot of fun--not just the game itself, but also the atmosphere, the food, the crowd...we know that things have been tight for a lot of area families and we want to do our part to provide some very lucky LorMet members with a little relaxation and stress relief.
Not a member of LorMet? Join LorMet Community Federal Credit Union today and then you too will be eligible for loans with low rates, flexible savings accounts and contests like this one.

While we like to stress the importance of having a savings account to put money aside for major purchases or hard times, we know this can be difficult if you are currently experiencing financial difficulty due to job loss. Here are some things to keep in mind as you search for work:
The Numbers Game
When you are desperate for work, it seems like a good idea to apply for a large number of jobs. However, if you are applying for jobs that are not a good fit or doing a sloppy job with applications, then you may waste time that could be spent more productively. You need to take the time to tailor your resume and cover letter to fit the company and job description online just as you would on paper.
Don't Search Online Only
You can apply for work and do some networking online, but it is a mistake to rely solely on online communication to find work. Some people think that if they send out a lot of resumes and job applications online this will lead to employment, without them having to get out there and pound the pavement. You should definitely take advantage of online opportunities, but you also need to talk to people you know face-to-face and let them know you're looking. If it is all possible, you should try to use online communication to progress to face-to-face meetings and interviews.
At LorMet we have online banking that allows you to manage accounts through a computer, but we still encourage you to come in to a branch and talk to us to discuss financial planning. You never know who you might run into while visiting the bank or even while grabbing a cup of coffee at the Arabica Café at our Main branch in Amherst.

At the start of the year, The Huffington Post suggested that its readers consider moving their money from large banking institutions to smaller financial institutions with a local focus, but they failed to mention one really amazing option: credit unions.
Fred R. Becker, Jr., President of the National Association of Federal Credit Unions wrote a response in which he called The Huffington Post to task for omitting credit unions in its discussion of local financial institutions. You really cannot get more local than a credit union. And if the rallying cry for people to move their money came about because of the mistrust brought on my dishonesty in big banking, then as Becker noted, they should have mentioned credit unions because they "have been widely recognized for their prudent business practices and great service."
At LorMet Community Federal Credit Union, our local focus is mentioned right in our name. Because credit unions are owned by their members, you know that your money is in good hands because it is in your hands. Knowing that you and your neighbors are depending on the credit union to ensure your financial growth means that credit union members and officers are much more conscious about the decisions they make regarding the credit union.
LorMet was started by a group of steel mill workers who banded together during the Great Depression because they wanted more for themselves and their families and that notion has not changed. Mr. Becker was right to respond as he did because while larger banking institutions were being careless with some people’s money, credit unions have been acting responsibly and in a way that rewards the trust their members have placed in them.
LorMet has four full-service branches to serve you in Amherst, Elyria, Lorain and Wellington. A new branch is coming to Oberlin this year. If you are not yet a member visit a branch or contact a member services representative today.

By now, many people may have visited LorMet's website and it's highly likely
that they have seen the LorMet logo, or at least glanced at it. Yet, they may
find it hard to describe the logo simply because it may be a little too small
on the computer screen. Well, here's a close up look at the LorMet logo.
At a distance, you will be able to see the crest, cradled by two sprigs of olive
leaves. For many years, olive leaves have been used to symbolize peace, but you
should also remember that olive leaves are often featured in many U.S. seals
and coins. Taken in this context, the olive leaves in LorMet's logo signify the
strength of the Credit Union.
Now, we will look at the crest, which is divided into four quarters. The quarter on the
top left corner shows a happy family as evidenced by the closeness of the husband and wife. Walking by their side is their daughter who appears to be just as happy with her doll and pet dog. In the top right quarter, you will see a factory. It's no secret that a large portion of the folks in Lorain County, Ohio work in the steel mills and heavy industry factories, earning a reputation as the best blue collar workforce in the country. In fact, LorMet was founded by steel workers.
In the bottom right quarter, there's an image of two men in suits shaking hands,
presumably reaching a business agreement, possibly after they have enjoyed the
great Arabica coffee at the LorMet headquarters in Amherst, Ohio. Then, you will see a barn house in the bottom left quarter because a lot of LorMet members are from the
agricultural sector, which is another major industry in the county.
At the top of the crest, there are the words "SERVING LORAIN COUNTY" and at the bottom
of the crest, there's a banner with the words "SINCE 1936" which is quite self-explanatory. From this simple logo, you can see that LorMet has been a rock of
stability for the families, industries, and businesses of Lorain County,
Ohio.

If you are one of the 90 million federal credit union members in the United States, you may have come across the term "
Federally Insured." What does it mean? Since most people may not know the full implications of being federally insured, it's a good idea to look at this term more closely, especially in regards to the
NCUA.
All federal credit unions in the United States are under the umbrella of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). The main functions of the NCUA include chartering, regulating, and insuring all the federal credit unions in the United States. As a member of a federal credit union, you will be pleased to know that your shares are insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF). Since the backbone of the NCUSIF is the United States Government, it's absolutely secure. Check this fact. From the time the NCUSIF was approved by Congress in 1970 up to this present day, not a single member of a federal credit union has ever lost even a single penny of insured savings.
When a federal credit union runs into trouble, the NCUA will do everything in its powers to rescue it. If nothing can be done and the federal credit union fails, federal credit union members have nothing to worry about. Typically within 3 working days upon the closing of the credit union, the NCUSIF will make the requisite payouts to the each and every member of the credit union. Since October 2008, the Standard Maximum Share Insurance Amount is set at $250,000, so your savings are insured up to that figure, subject to the rules and regulations of the NCUA.
While not all credit unions are federally insured, the LorMet Community Federal Credit Union in Lorain County, Ohio is federally insured and growing stronger than ever.

Harley-Davidson motorcycles have always exuded a distinct American mystique which is hard to define, yet, unmistakable. It’s one of those machines that make your blood race. Just ask Wyatt (Peter Fonda) and Billy (Dennis Hopper) who looked for “America” on their Harleys in the classic 1969 movie Easy Rider.

For the longest time, a good number of celebrities have been known to be avid Harley-Davidson fans. Representing the older guard, Elvis Presley, James Dean, Jimi Hendrix, Brigitte Bardot, Marlon Brando, Clark Gable, and Elizabeth Taylor are some of the most famous Harley-Davidson owners. In more modern times, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Marisa Miller, Mickey Rourke, George Clooney, Jay Leno, and Arnold Schwarznegger have added to the aura of the brand. Today, Harley-Davidson has clearly lost none of its appeal. In fact, its reputation has only grown stronger, as it gains greater presence around the world.
While many people would love to be riding on their own Harley-Davidson motorcycles, more than a few of them would be discouraged by the prices. These machines are certainly not cheap. For the 2010 line, the lowest priced model retails for a little less than $8,000 and the price goes up to about $36,000 for the top model. It’s no secret why Harley-Davidson bikes are sometimes viewed as status symbols.
Nevertheless, there’s really no reason to get discouraged. If you have been dreaming about owning your Harley, you may be a lot closer to reality than you think.
LorMet Community Federal Credit Union in Lorain County, Ohio offers very competitive
loan rates for motorcycles. Let’s say you have your eyes on the new killer 2010 Harley-Davidson Softail Rocker C which retails for $19,499, and you are looking to repay the loan in 6 years at 5.75 APR, the monthly rate is only $320.86. How does that sound? It’s the roar of your Harley, calling you.

Whether you are located near our Amherst, Elyria, Lorain, or Wellington branches,
LorMet Community Federal Credit Union is here to help you with your car loan needs. Before you even need a loan, you need to consider which type of car that is right for you.
Do You Buy a Used or New Car?
Sometimes the decision on whether you buy a new car or used car is determined by how much you really have to spend or how much you can afford to pay on a monthly basis for your car loan. With many new cars costing over $25,000 or more, a good used car may be the solution for many people. There are some buyers who prefer a new car over a used car saving the hassle of selling their old car by trading it in on a new car purchase.
The first place to start your car search is by checking the used car and new car lots to get an idea of price if you have not shopped for a car lately. You may find as you check prices on new and used cars that you gravitate to one market based on your income and potential payment. With the recent cash for clunkers program requiring that the engines be "killed" on turned in cars, many used car sellers have lower than typical inventories at this time. You simply may not be able to find a quality used car that suits your needs.
For some people the security of a new car warranty provides the safety of preventing an expected costly repair just after purchase, as is sometimes the case with the purchase of a used car.
If you do buy a used car from a dealer make sure to ask about the warranty as some cars will come with a 30 day warrantee and some will be sold as is. If you buy a used car from an individual, the time and investment for a CarFax report on the title and car's history may be well worth the $50 average cost.
We recommend before you get serious about car shopping that you check with your local LorMet Community Federal Credit Union staff to see what amount of car loan you would qualify for before shopping. This allows you to know your price range for a car; helping you to quickly narrow your search based on price.
Buying a car, whether it is new or used, is an exciting time. Just make sure you do a bit of homework first by shopping around. You won't have to shop around for your car loan though, LorMet Community Federal Credit Union provides affordable car loan rates for your car purchase - new or used.
