Throughout the month of February, Lorain County residents have had the opportunity to step back in the past with the romantic comedy "Ten Cents a Dance A 1940's Love Story From The Dance Halls Of Lorain County” will run until February 21. This play looks back at the lives of Lorain County couples who became acquainted at dance halls in the post-WWII era. Although the play is fictional, it is based on the reality of Lorain County couples who met a Avon Isles, Crystal Beach and other social gatherings.

Audiences can not only watch, they also have the option of participating in the dancing as well. Reality television has nothing on this! If you lived through that era, you will enjoy the opportunity to reminisce. Those of you who are too young to remember such times can still enjoy the chance to get a bit of that old-time dance hall flavor.

All of those couples from the 1940's 50s and 60s continued to build upon the foundation left for them by earlier residents of Lorain County. It is their perseverance and hard work that made it possible for our community to continue through to the present. Just the title alone, shows how times have changed--the dances were ten cents, but tickets to see the play are $10. Ten cents seems like nothing to us now, but it meant something in those days. In order to have ten cents to spend on a dance, you had to make sure your other financial obligations were met.

Those of you who have yet to open a savings or free checking account with LorMet Federal Credit Union should consider doing that soon. If you are finding that you are unsure of how to manage your money, do not feel ashamed to stop by any one of our branches and ask for help. We want Lorain County to remain strong.
