Heidelberg Distributing Co. Brings New Jobs to Lorain County
News about more jobs is a good thing, so we were happy to hear that the Heidelberg Distributing Co. is in negotiations to buy part of the property that now belongs to the Lorain Assembly Plant. This family-owned company is the 16th largest distributor of beer in the country. Prior to this, the company was leasing a building in Lorain, but they have found that they need more space. The plain is for Heidelberg to have its own separate building.
The company hopes to have this project in place by summertime. As you can imagine, anyone who distributes beer and wine does brisk business during the summer. The Lorain County Council was in favor of the deal and agreed to provide tax incentives to the company as long as it continues to have an annual payroll of $3.4 million or more.
This is an exciting development for our Lorain County community, especially since the company anticipates needing 100 jobs for this location. Fifty existing positions will remain and an additional 50 will be moved to Lorain from another site. And since they have already sought to expand from their current location, there is a possibility that Heidelberg will be able to hire even more people at some point in the future. We certainly hope this is the case.
We will also be glad to see part of the Lorain Assembly Plant put to good use. There has also been some talk about the possible redevelopment of Chrysler's Twinsburg Stamping Plant. It is slated to be closed this summer.
For now, we welcome the prospect of more jobs in Lorain County. As a reminder, anyone who lives, works or worships in Lorain County is eligible for membership in the LorMet Community Federal Credit Union, so as long as you are connected to Lorain County, LorMet wants to connect with you.
